I'm taking a break from the my Heresy army to do some Blood Angels. My brother told me he was adding to his Blood Angels army and was paying a commission painter to get them done. I couldn't let him spend that money on a painter when I would love to paint them and would do it for free!

Preparing For My First Horus Heresy Game

So this weekend see's my gaming club, the Queensland Gamer's Guild, December meet up. I'm due to play my first Heresy game against Corbulo and his Mechanicum, from the Heresy 30K forums.

As regular readers may be aware, although I've completed several units of Emperor's Children, I'm still not close to having a functioning army. My Slaanesh Daemons will be filling out the gaps.

HPC 2014: Heralds of Slaanesh - November Commitment

It feels like an age since I worked on my Daemons, but I still have to complete my November commitment for the Independent Characters Hobby Progress Challenge 2014. I made a commitment of 2 Heralds of Slaanesh and a Herald of Slaanesh on a Seeker.


I've already completed the Herald on a Seeker, here she is with a retinue of Seekers.

Make your own Horus Heresy Themed Objective Markers

Slight divergence from my usual posts, today I'm going to show you how I made my own Objective markers.

I'm running a 30K narrative tournament at the end of the month for Orktoberfest. I'm going to need many objective markers for the missions. It would get costly quickly if I had bought them, so I opted to make my own.

30K: Building My Emperor's Children - Part Four Fast Attack

It's been a while since my last instalment of this series. I've been focussing a lot on painting my first 1,000 points so I can get some Heresy gaming done, and organising the Heresy narrative coming at the end of this month.

 I'm going to make good use of the Fast Attack slot, as it has some great units for my play style. here is the list of options you get in the Fast Attack slot.

EC: Veteran Tactical Squad #1

I've been working on converting a 40K Space Marine Tactical squad into a 30K Veteran Tactical squad. It's a lot more time consuming than I imagined!

After cleaning up all the parts I then proceeded to cut the knee caps off to green stuff some MKIV knees.

EC: Primus Medicae Finished

Well, almost! I still have to do the power weapons. As you can see from the pictures I ended up magnetising the arms from just above the elbow, this enables me to play with both Power Sword and Power Axe, and eventually when I can get hold of some more, a Phoenix Power Spear!

EC: Primus Medicae

I did assemble it pre-Greenstuff and take a photo of the potential end pose.

Horus Heresy Narrative Event @Orktoberfest, Brisbane October 2014

Calling all Heresy players in the Brisbane, Australia area. This years Orktoberfest will be running a Horus Heresy narrative event, ran by yours truly.



My local club, The Queensland Gamers Guild asked me to gauge the interest from the community in running a Horus Heresy event at this years Orktoberfest. So I went to my heresy hangout of choice, the Heresy 30K forums, where I know many Australians frequent and the response was encouraging!

Long story short, I have ended up organising the whole thing myself.

EC: Lord Commander Eidolon WIP

So I've started my work on the Lord Commander himself. I've used heavily from the Blood Angels Sanguinary guard. I think perhaps he looks too much like a Blood Angel right now.

Daemons (Slaanesh) vs Daemons (Tzeentch) - 750pts

At the Queensland Gamers Guild meet up last weekend I played against another Daemon army, what I thought was a fluffy Tzeentch list. The gamer was trying a list for an upcoming event called ForceZ in Brisbane, which is 5 games at 750pts over the course of one day with each game limited to1hr 15mins.


This is going to be a quick report, as a lot of the pictures I took were sadly blurred, and we were rushed towards the end of the game to get it finished before midday.

30K: Building My Emperor's Children - Part Three Elites

Time to move on to the Elite choices. The Force Org chart for the Age of Darkness (30K) allows up to 4 choices in the Elite spot. Which is great, because there are many great options for this slot. As discussed previously, I'm using the Pride of Legion Rite of War which makes Legion Terminators and Legion Veteran Tactical squads troops. So no need to discuss again here. So what are the other options?

  • Techmarine Covenant
  • Apothecarion Detachment
  • Dreadnought Talon
  • Mortis-Dreadnought
  • Contemptor Talon
  • Mortis-Contemptor

EC: Contemptor Dreadnought Update

Paint is getting on the Contemptor. Slow progress, but progress nonetheless.

Purple: Xerxes Purple base completed, next step Druchii Violet Wash and then some highlighting with Genestealer Purple.
Metal: Ironbreaker and Nuln Oil wash done, another Nuln Oil wash followed by some dry brushing Necron Compound to complete
Gold: Balthasar Gold base completed, Agrax Earthshade wash is next, followed by highlighting in Gehenna's Gold.
White: Not started.

30K: Building My Emperor's Children - Part Two Troops

With my HQ options sorted it's time to look at the troop choices. Unlike 40K, 30K Space Marine lists have 5 options for the Troop choice.
  • Tactical Squad
  • Assault Squad
  • Breacher Siege Squad
  • Tactical Support Squad
  • Reconnaissance Squad


I will get on to these shortly, as I will be choosing the Pride of the Legion Rite of War, this also opens up Terminators Squads, Veteran Tactical Squads and Phoenix Guard Terminators as troops too. These must be chosen as the compulsory troop choices, so that's at least two units in a standard Age of Darkness Force Org.

EC: Contemptor Dreadnought

I may not have finished my Slaanesh Daemons just yet, but I have made some progress with my new Emperor's Children. I spent the weekend dry fitting the Contemptor, I had some problem with UHU yellow tac, it's an alternative to Blue tac... which just doesn't work with Forgeworld Resin.

In the end I bought some actual Blue tac and I was able to dry fit. Here is the finished Contemptor pose, I have yet to glue the shoulders as I wish to build some weapons up to get the pose just right:

30K: Building My Emperor's Children - Part one HQ

I'm down to my last 10 Daemonettes, and it's time I start looking at my next project: 30K Emperor's Children. I will be blogging my progress from start to finish, from list building, to modelling, to painting and finally to playing.


So, why Emperor's Children? It's no secret that I'm a fan of Slaanesh, this blog is called Slave To Slaanesh afterall! What really draws me to the Emperor's Children is that they were beloved by the Emperor enough to give them his name, and his heraldry, but their quest for perfection to be worthy of using His name turns to arrogance and ultimately sees them fall to Slaanesh.

Plus, I am now a big fan of Purple and Gold. I can't wait to put paint on some Marines! 

But before I start modelling and painting I want to sit down and make a list. I find having a list when you start a new project helps focus the effort without getting side tracked by big shiny things, of which there are many many BIG shiny things in 30K.

HPC 2014 update - September Commitment Complete

I have completed my second Daemon Prince. I went with Blue, for the sword. I certainly have some ways to go with painting swords. But it's to a tabletop standard that looks good from a distance, so I'm calling that a victory rather than get too frustrated with it.

Daemons vs Iron Hands - 1500pts

Thursday night I played Atomic, from the Independent Characters forum. He asked if he could test out his 1500pts Brisbane Winter War Fest Iron Hands list, to which I agreed. I'm not really a tournament player, but relished the chance to try my army against it.
